Short Version: An introduction to dubstep.
Long Version: Dubstep is defined by one source as a "genre of electronic music that originated in South East London with tightly coiled production and overwhelming bass lines." Fair assessment. I have been delving into it recently trying to see if any of it would grab me. In my past years at Coachella I would walk near the massive DJ tent and hear the echoes of dubstep and it sounded 'overwhelming' when heard, especially at such volume. But after researching numerous artists I came to the simpleton conclusion that a lot of it sounds the same. Of course each song is different in its own right, but none really grabbed me. Now let me say that it didn't grab me while I am driving around during the day time in Kentucky, but it might be the perfect soundtrack for a darker, more brooding situation.
The exception is this week's artist: Bassnectar. He is a DJ hailing from Santa Cruz, CA who I remember visiting British Columbia more than once while I lived there. I got an album of his and of all the tracks, this live version stood out to me more than any of the others. It has a few distinct beats within it and all of them work together in harmony. It kills even more since it is live. One goal of this site is to expose you to more than one style of music. Stay tuned for more exposure in the near future. Happy Mustache March.

Thumbs up!
