Short Version: Strummed out lullaby before your walk to the gallows.
Long Version: PJ Harvey is featured this week as one of the many artists that will be performing in April at the Coachella Festival in Indio, CA. This pick is her lead single off of her newest release "Let England Shake." PJ has always been hit or miss for me. In my opinion she can make a near perfect song, or make something forgettable. On first listen this grabbed me. The video packs an artistic punch as well. Beautifully carried out with a nice acoustic intro and interlude. Plus if you listen closely you might hear the quasi chorus within that owes its origins to Eddie Cochran's 'Summertime Blues.'
This might possibly be your first introduction to Miss Polly Jean. In that case I have included the song and video that got me hooked 10 years ago. 'This is Love' was off her best and most critically acclaimed release, "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea." The song is raw and infectious. She just wants to get it on with her man. Can you blame her. But throughout the whole video I am waiting to get sucker punched when I am not looking. Or more probable, when I am.
